Chatelaine pins, watch pins, and stick pins featuring chimera or griffin-like creatures were quite popular and produced by most of the fine American jewelry manufacturing companies around the turn of the 20th century.

This elegant Art Nouveau griffin or griffin-dragon pin is finely rendered of 14k gold (unmarked, but acid tested) with a ruby eye.

The brooch has a hook at the bottom of the brooch that was once used to hang a chatelaine or watch, and it measures 1.1 inch from top to bottom by 1.1 inch wide.

The piece is in good condition; however, the pin catch was replaced at some point in the past, and the ruby eye is set upside down (visible only under magnification).
