A beautiful antique Victorian old cut diamond and ruby crescent moon brooch set in silver and gold.
This recognisable piece of Victorian craftsmanship is centrally set with a gold and silver crescent moon, set throughout with old cut diamonds and rubies. The crescent moon is set on two gold bars which are capped to either end with further rubies and diamonds. The piece is secured to reverse with a pin and hook fitting.
The crescent moon motif was made highly popular in the Victorian era. It symbolizes romance, empowerment, change and spirituality and was worn by men and women of the time.
For size reference, the brooch measures 1.2 x 4.2 centimetres and there is a gross weight of 3.8 grams. There is an estimated total old cut diamond weight of 0.45 carats. Ranging J-K with VS-SI clarity. Due to the age, circa 1880, the brooch is not hallmarked however has tested for gold and silver.
